A school student was killed after a motorcycle lost control and crashed into a tree in the Middle Jaflong Union of Gowainghat Upazila, Sylhet. Two of his classmates were seriously injured and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The accident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday (July 5) on the Radhanagar–Baurbhag Tea Garden Road in East Jaflong Union No. 3 of the upazila. The deceased was identified as Sakib Ahmed (16), son of Mohorom Mia from Nayabasti village in Gowainghat Upazila. The injured students are Raihan Ahmed (16), son of Habibur Rahman (Hobi) Mia from Chhailakhel village, and Joy (16), son of Razzak Mia from Lakherpar village. All three were eighth-grade students. According to eyewitnesses and police, the three friends went on a motorcycle trip to the Jaflong Tea Garden area after completing their ongoing eighth-grade examinations. While heading toward Radhanagar Bazar, the Pulsar motorcycle they were riding reportedly went out of control due to excessive speed and slammed into a roadside tree. Sakib Ahmed sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The two other students were critically injured and are receiving treatment at Sylhet Queens Hospital. Their condition is reported to be critical. Confirming the incident, Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruk Morol said that one student had died in the motorcycle crash, while the other two remain in critical condition at Queens Hospital in Sylhet. He added that legal proceedings were underway.
