Mehedi Hasan Savar Dhaka: Dhaka’s Savar’s Aminbazar has been given a 30-day deadline by Dhaka District Commissioner Ms. Farida Khanam to remove the garbage and waste that has been accumulated for a long time on both sides of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, stretching nearly two kilometres. At the same time, she has announced extensive tree planting by filling the land on both sides of the road for beautification and environmental improvement in the area.
On monday (6 July), during a field visit to the Aminbazar area, the district commissioner gave this directive. During the visit, it was observed that due to the dumping of various types of garbage on both sides of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, a severe stench has spread throughout the area. This has caused not only environmental pollution but also extreme suffering for local residents, pedestrians, and passengers. The unclean environment is also posing a risk to public health. At this time, District Commissioner Ms. Farida Khanam said, “Such an environment at an important entry point like Aminbazar is absolutely unacceptable. All the garbage and waste here will be removed promptly. Permanent measures will be taken to ensure that no waste is dumped here in the future.” She informed that a designated dumping station will be established by identifying suitable vacant land in a remote area instead of the current location. As a result, there will be no need to dump waste next to residential and important roads. The district commissioner further stated that an environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing green belt will be created by filling the land on both sides of the road. Various species of trees will be planted there under the Prime Minister’s announced five-year programme to plant 2.5 billion trees. This will help maintain environmental balance on one hand, while making the capital’s entry point cleaner and more attractive on the other.
She said, “Our goal is to create a clean, green, and livable Savar. In this effort, the local population must also be made aware alongside the administration. Everyone must come out of the culture of dumping waste everywhere.”
After the visit, the district commissioner instructed the Savar Upazila administration and all relevant departments to remove all garbage and waste from both sides of the road within the next seven days and to take necessary measures. At the same time, they have been asked to inform the district administration about the progress of implementing the directives within the specified time.
