Students have once again taken to the streets over the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination controversy.
A group of students gathered outside the BNS Center in Uttara, Dhaka, shortly after 1:00 pm today (Wednesday). They also blocked the road in front of the center, according to Tareq Ahmed Beg, Deputy Commissioner of the Uttara Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), who confirmed to the news reports .
The latest demonstration follows widespread protests held on Tuesday in Dhaka, Chattogram, and several other parts of the country. Students staged rallies and road blockades in protest against the authorities’ decision to continue the HSC examinations despite heavy rainfall and waterlogging. They also raised concerns over errors in the Physics examination paper and questioned the overall quality of its questions.
At around 9:45 pm on Tuesday, students in Dhaka concluded the day’s protests after announcing a fresh programme. They warned that if Wednesday’s scheduled examination was not postponed, they would launch a “Long March to the Ministry of Education” beginning at 3:00 pm.
The protesters have put forward a three-point demand, including the resignation of Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon over what they described as offensive remarks about students.
Meanwhile, the education minister expressed regret in Parliament on Tuesday for his comments regarding the students.
