A monsoon land depression that was located over Odisha and adjoining southern Jharkhand has weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area after moving northwestward. It is now centred over eastern Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas and is likely to continue moving west-northwest while weakening further.
However, the system has created a steep pressure gradient over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, which may trigger squally weather over the seaports, the North Bay, and the adjoining coastal regions of Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued the warning for the country’s seaports on Tuesday.
According to the advisory, maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 hoisted due to the prevailing weather conditions.
The BMD also advised all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay of Bengal to remain close to the coast and navigate with caution until further notice.
