Moment 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocks southern Japan

A magnitude 7.1 earthquake has hit Kumamoto on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, sending buildings swaying as people rushed to safety.

Authorities have issued a tsunami alert following the quake.
